Q&A with Friends President Leighton Powell

Get to know your Friends of the Richmond Public Library!

Leighton Powell, President of the Friends, offers answers to some of those burning questions:

Q. What do the Friends do?

A. The Friends support lectures, special events and programs such as the Richmond Writers Series, Summer Reading Program and numerous family programs at all 9 library locations.

Q. What is with that huge book sale?

A.  The Friends sponsor a biannual BOOK SALE at the Main Library, which grossed more than $23,000 last year!  The Friends volunteer their time to collect donated books, run the sale, and even help customers find that hidden treasure on the shelf - all with smiles on their faces!

Q.  What else do the Friends do?

A.  As if the BOOK SALE were not enough, the Friends also volunteer at all library programs.  You will find them helping at author readings, poetry slams, First Friday art openings, and Summer Reading events.

Q.  How do I get in on this action?

A.  You can join!  Individual memberships are available for as little as $10 a year, and businesses can join for as little as $50.  Call 804.646.3411 for more details.
